When it comes to a complete collapse of society, there are some businesses that you can consider starting to keep yourself afloat, assuming of course money is still around. You can barter for payment with many of these businesses so that you and your family have all of the supplies you need for survival.

Hydroponic food growing – This is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. Terrestrial plants may be grown with their roots in the mineral solution only, or in an inert medium, such as perlite or gravel.

Medical Practitioner – Assuming you’ve obtained the hands on medical skills necessary, you can find great work as a medical practitioner. This may even include growing your own essential oils and making your own medicine!

First aid, medical aid, prepper survival

Shoe & clothing repair or Gunsmithing (Firearms repair) – It goes without saying that repairing these items would be very important in a full societal collapse.

Delivery & smuggling – If someone needs something delivered (or smuggled) you’ll be the go-to guy. This particular job might be risky, but you’d be in great demand. This is also a great way to segway to another high-demand career in the apocalypse: Security Guard.

Animal ranching, food processing, and Food preservation (drying, smoking, salting, canning) – Let’s be honest, this one is probably going to be difficult at first since most preppers will (or at least should) have basic knowledge in keeping food storage, but as food runs out, you can find yourself in a high-demand spot in a new society.

Woodworking and Construction – Building houses, sheds, and other buildings is essential for any society.

Blacksmith (Metal working and tool building) – You’ll need tools to do most of the jobs mentioned in this post.

Bullet fabrication, Cartridge Reloading, and Weapon Building – Weapons are essential to keeping yourself safe, and this business would be booming as a result.

What other jobs would be useful in a collapse?
