Garlic is not only a tasty spice to add to bread, spaghetti, or other food dish, it turns out it’s also quite useful when you’re looking to be well prepared for trekking, camping, or homesteading in the wilderness, particularly if there’s a swamp or moisture nearby. That’s because garlic can be utilized to repel mosquitoes, preventing any need for you to deal with mosquito bites.
It’s a relatively simple recipe to make. Simply gather together minced garlic, mineral oil, lemon juice, and muslin or cheesecloth. First you’ll need to mince a few cloves of garlic. Once they’re minced, cover them with mineral oil and let them soak for 24 hours.
Now that they’ve soaked, remove the minced garlic chunks and mix the oil with 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Strain everything through the muslin or cheesecloth.
Finally, you can add the mixture to a water bottle (just don’t drink it!) or a spray bottle and apply where desired. It’s recommended that you use it on your wrists, legs, arms, and neck (or wear long pants or sleeves) so that your most important survival assets are covered.
Alternatively you can use lavender flowers (rub them on your skin).
There are also other ways to repel mosquitoes. Let us know your ideas!
