What is MRE? MRE is an acronym for Meal, Ready-to-Eat. MREs are civilian and military foods that have a long shelf life; they generally expire after 25 years. MRE food can be readily available if you’re not able to receive FEMA disaster relief during an emergency or disaster, they can be used as food storage to combat food shortages, and they can be even eaten as a healthy meal.
